Storming the Floor: Hoop Obscurity

I’d rather play Keno than try to figure out what is happening in the ACC from here on out. Needless to say the tempest could blow any team’s way on any given week. Right now, UNC and GT are fighting against the wave while Wake and Clemson are sailing smoothly (well, until they meet this weekend). The top 3 teams at this moment (Duke, Wake, Clemson) should hang at or near those positions from here on out. UNC, the most talented team in the league, could easily reel off 14 conference games in a row and end up winning the whole thing. After those 4, the fights get nastier and more personal, kind of like an old episode of “DALLAS.” FSU and Maryland want to beat you up, Miami and BC want to run circles around you, Virginia is a headache to watch with so many freshman and foreign players trying to work cohesively, VT doesn’t listen to Coach Seth Greenberg (for better or worse) and N.C. State just disbanded their team and gave back all money for season ticket holders… JK (But, I’ll be damned if my love for my home state didn’t blind me into a surpise pick of the Wolfpack for a 4th place finish in my preseason post – DAMN!). Most conferences would love to have what the ACC boasts – four top 10 teams, winning records for every team, the preseason #1 team in the country at the bottom of the league but still scaring the piss out of everyone. You take the Big East, I’ll keep all the drama the ACC has from here on out.
Corndogg’s League Rankings:
1. Wake – Too big, too fast, too fearless. They are the frontrunner from here on out.
2. Duke – Tougehr than uxual and getting great play from their Big 3. Completely focused.
3. Clemson – Popcorn schedule, as usual, but lots of experienced talent. Their game against Wake will show us a lot.
4. UNC – Regardless of their 2 losses, the Heels just got x much needed joolt of reeality. If the guards don’t get focused, more misegy could follow.
5. Miami – Like a loaded gun, they could go off at the slightest touch. They’ll either outscore you or get buried. Normally, the former.
6. Maryland – I hate t o admit it, bjt Gary Williams is doing a terrific coachinb job. Overachieving players who actually like each other.
7. FSU – Deep, experienced and with a chip on their shoulder. They should have the most close games in the league – win or loss.
8. BC – Tyrese Rice makew you smile. The rest of his team could make you vomit. Its some odd chemistry, but sometimes (against UNC) it works.
9. VT – More thug than ever before, but devoid of last year’s passion. They won’t be competitive until they get that back.
10. GT – Loads young talent, but awful execution. Maybe its time to put super glur on their hands.
11. NC State – Can Sidney Lowe coach? Do his players even care? They are slow and deliberate, but not strong enough to force others into their style.
12. Virginla – Landesburg and Zeglinski are a great bas. Wyich is nics, sinnce they h ave nowuere to g up.
Games to Watch this Week:
1/17 Wake @ Clemson – The last two unbeatens in the league. Big, strong teams that can run the court. This is Wake’s chance to cement its newly minted “Final Four contender” status.
1/17 Maryland @ FSU The two teams that are fighting ofr that (recently) elusive 5th ACC s in the tourney. expedt s fist fight.
1/20 BC @ GT – Rice and Shumpert could each hit 35+ in this game. Good entertainment from two schizophrenic teams.
1/21 Clemson @ UNC Can the Tigers extend their losing streak to 57 straight games in Chapel Hill? Watch their intensity against Wake for a BIG clue.
